Is it True: Once Saved Always Saved?

Some years ago I sat in a certain Church and heard a preacher deliver a funeral message over a young man who had been killed in an accident. I looked at the Church full of people and listened as the preacher preached the deceased into heaven. I knew the young man had made no pretense of being saved. He seldom, if ever, went to Church The only time he mentioned God's name was in profanity, and yet he was preached into heaven. The preacher stated that even though the deceased had been out of fellowship with God, he had been saved and he could not lose his salvation; consequently, he was now in heaven.

Now, it made no difference to the deceased what was preached; however, the hundreds of people who sat there and listened to the preacher were led to believe they could live anyway they wanted to and still go to heaven.

Millions of people believe the doctrine of unconditional eternal security and will die and go to hell because they make no pretense of living for God.

I heard two sermons not too long ago that asked respectively, "Can a Christian ever be lost?" - "Can a born again believer ever be lost?" Of course, the speakers were promoting the doctrine of "once in Grace, always in Grace," et cetera. No, a Christian cannot be lost; neither can a born again believer be lost. However, a Christian can cease to be a Christian through an act of his own will, and a believer can cease to believe; then that person can be lost.
